JAMES RHODES

San Sebastián, 2022

“En mis conciertos hablo de las piezas que interpreto, cuento por qué las he elegido, qué importancia tienen para mí y en qué contexto se compusieron”. This is how James Rhodes explains what his recitals are like in the prologue to his book Instrumental. Memoirs of music, medicine and madness, with which he has achieved enormous and unexpected success around the world. In addition to playing and contextualizing the works he performs, the British pianist also tells on stage, among pieces by Bach, Chopin or Rachmaninov, the story of his life and how music has helped him overcome the many obstacles he has encountered along the way.

James Rhodes is in love with classical music. Charismatic, visceral and very talented, Rhodes claims that Bach (and especially "The Goldberg Variations") have saved his life. And he is not exaggerating. At the age of 40, he has become one of the main disseminators of classical music in the world, thanks to his tours and concerts in all kinds of festivals and halls, and several documentaries about him filmed with the complicity of British television channels.

James Rhodes offers a different approach to classical music on stage, interacting with the audience, sharing emotions and opinions about the music and the great composers he performs. Revered by British critics for his unique irreverent style, Rhodes brings a very personal touch to each of his performances.
